Silence.
It’s been more than a decade now since we got married, but there was a lengthy and unexpected pause during our wedding ceremony that I will never forget. A silent moment that was not planned. A breath of time void of sound and movement. Music was supposed to be playing, but a misreading of the program led the pianist to wait.
In silence… while we knelt to pray quietly together, forgetful of the dozens of family and friends directly behind us.
It took many guests off guard. For some, I’m sure the silence was uncomfortable. For me, it has been a wonderful reminder that in every season of life there is a time for quiet.
Silence as Genesis.
Ann Voskamp wrote that “The words we speak must find their genesis from the silent places.” She’s right.
So many thoughts, ideas, changes begin when the heart and mouth are silent before the Lord… listening… filling up… feasting… processing.
Deliberate Silence.
I’m sure that from time to time there will be days when I do not post on this blog. There’s nothing wrong with a little bit silence every now and then, right? This blog is not a business for me… just a way to journal and photograph His grace in the world around me. Honestly, I do not feel an “obligation” to post all the time. I humbly ask you not to expect it.
But I want you to know that there will be one day a week of deliberate silence.
I love the idea of Sabbath that God gave to His people… a day for rest, renewal, and quiet. Oh, what a precious gift! Sundays are my Sabbath. We spend time at church, hanging out with our family, getting lost in books, drinking afternoon coffee together, and taking long naps on Sundays.
And so I find it also appropriate to be deliberately silent here.
